What are Overhead Cranes
The primary function of overhead cranes, often called bridge cranes, is the horizontal transportation and lifting of big goods. They feature a runway system mounted to the roof of a structure and a hoist that travels down the runway.
What are Gantry Cranes
But gantry cranes are freestanding, with two legs bearing the weight of a horizontal beam. The beam's hoist and trolley are mobile. Thus, it can lift and move big items horizontally and vertically.
The Distinctive Features of Gantry and Overhead Cranes
Structure
Overhead cranes and gantry cranes are essentially built in different ways. The runway system of an overhead crane manufacturers is installed on the ceiling or roof of a structure, and the crane itself is suspended from the system. The crane is normally made up of a bridge spanning the length of the working area, a hoist that travels along the bridge, and a trolley that travels horizontally along the bridge. This layout makes efficient use of available office space and reduces the amount of clutter.
But gantry cranes have two or more legs that travel along rails or tracks rather than wheels. Typically, a concrete base or ground anchors keep the legs in place. The legs are joined at the top by a crossbeam, along which the hoist travels. Since gantry cranes don't need to be attached to any one fixed building, they're mobile and can be utilised anywhere, including outdoors.
Mobility
Another key distinction between gantry cranes and overhead cranes is portability. The only place overhead cranes may go is along a specially designed-runway. The runway system needs to be expanded to get the crane from one end of the workplace to the other, but this is easily done. Because of this, overhead cranes are the best option for moving heavy objects across long distances.
On the other hand, gantry cranes are portable and can be moved to different locations within a facility. The legs of a gantry crane are built to be mobile in any direction, either on wheels or tracks. Because of this, gantry cranes are more adaptable than overhead crane manufacturer in India and can access tighter spaces.
Whether inside or outside
Due to their stationary design, overhead cranes are often restricted to interior settings. These cranes are great for heavy lifting, transferring products along a production line, and moving things throughout a warehouse or factory.
However, their mobility makes gantry cranes more suited to outdoor applications. These cranes don't need to be anchored to a building or other structure because they have their supporting framework.
