Criteria to choose a workshop crane for heavy fabrications

One of the first things to keep in mind is security. Before buying a crane for heavy fabrications, verify that it has the CE identification, which means that the manufacturer's information is correct and that the device has passed the usage tests.

Then, whether to lift a car engine, a load from a platform, or simply move something very heavy, you must consider several aspects.

1. The maximum authorized load: The maximum authorized load is the first thing to consider, but be careful, because you have to know how to interpret it. It is given by the shortest possible arrow length (when adjustable) and therefore the minimum lifting height. Take as an example a workshop crane given for 2 t (tons), with an adjustable date ranging from 95 to 150 cm.

So you can lift 2 t but only in position 95 cm. In 150 cm position, the maximum load drops to 650 kg, but you can lift it higher. This technical restriction must be taken into account to avoid danger and lift loads safely.

2. Maximum lifting height: The maximum lifting height for heavy steel fabrications is the second parameter to take into account, especially if you consider mechanical work. Imagine you want to replace a car engine, but the crane doesn't lift it high enough to get it out. The maximum lift height is directly linked to the length of the arrow. And, as we saw earlier, the higher the crane lifts, the less it tolerates a high load. When you choose a crane, if you have to lift high loads, you should be aware of the actual load it supports at the end of the arrow.

3. The characteristic of the arrow: The characteristic of the arrow is an important element of the crane, which defines its lifting capacity. All high weight affects the arrow. That is why it must be sufficiently sized because it supports all restrictions. You can choose between two types of arrows: fixed and telescopic.

If your crane has wheels, it is convenient to block them before lifting the load. For added safety, in addition to the crane brake, it uses wedges.
